MAOS - 'The Markinch Musical Society'

MAOS is a group of keen amateur actors, singers and helpers, based in
Markinch, Fife, Scotland, who produce a musical show in March of each year.

After having to cancel this production in March 2020 due to Covid we will now be presenting the classic cult musical 'THE PRODUCERS' in Markinch Town Hall from 19th to 23rd March 2024

Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy musical, 'The Producers' sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humour.
The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby milking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry - the show is a smash hit!
Observe the antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they manoeuvre their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive "Springtime for Hitler"), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds.
At the core of this insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.

I hope that you will find something interesting in these pages and if you live within travelling distance of Markinch, perhaps you would consider joining the company.

Contrary to popular belief you DO NOT have to be a singer to join our group. Perhaps you would be interested in participating in acting, dancing, make-up, painting, stage crew work, lighting, costumes or one of the many other jobs which keep our show 'on the road'. Being involved in any capacity, producing a show to present to the public gives us a great deal of fun and satisfaction and is an excellent hobby throughout the winter months.

Markinch Amateur Operatic Society is affiliated to NODA, The National Operatic and Dramatic Association, based in London, but administered at a local level by a regional representative. In 1999 NODA celebrated its Centenary, and now has a membership of 2300 Amateur Companies in the UK.
